Chua Boon Ka
Born in 1953 , Chua Boon Ka is a Singaporean citizen and graduated from the Applied Sculpture Department of Baharudin Vocational College in 1973. After graduating from the college with full national service, he chose to go to work in the shipbuilding industry. He spent 20 years in the shipbuilding and engineering environment. Although these industrial experiences were not directly related to the sculpture he studied at the vocational college, he found time to study theories about art on his own, especially delving into the inscriptions of famous Chinese calligraphers through the ages. During his study of ancient masterpieces, he was also introduced to meditation and the Taoist way of cultivation. He realized that in order to develop in the direction of art, artists must be trained and enhanced at the philosophical and spiritual levels. He felt that when he reached a certain level of cultivation, his creative inspiration would continue to come out.
